2025 Poetry Competition
Read the Chinese version here.
On the last day before our Thanksgiving break, we conducted our Thanksgiving event and annual Poetry Competition. With gratitude as the virtue of the month, our students prepared for this day all month. We hope that they gained a deeper understanding of gratitude and appreciation for all that they have.
Former principal, Ms. Janet Xiong opened the event with inspiring remarks about Chinese and English poetry. Students in pre-K, kindergarten, and first grade recited the Hong Yin poem “Perfect and Illuminate,” a poem they recite daily, in Chinese and English, during their morning meeting. They also recited “Sunshine,” which they learned in English class.
Next, the ESL class recited the poem “A Quilt for the Queen.” One of the ESL students even wrote an original poem and read it in English to the audience; simultaneously boosting their confidence and reaching an incredible achievement. Overall, we have seen great improvement over the last three months from our ESL learners.
Afterwards the second and third grade classes recited three Hong Yin poems in Chinese as well as “The Little Things,” in English. To finish our performances, the grade four and five music class sang “Thank You Song.”
While the judges deliberated, students, parents, and teachers enjoyed a short intermission of snacks and drinks.
Congratulations to all our award winners!
