Falun Dafa

At the heart of our school community is our faith in Falun Dafa, an ancient spiritual discipline of the Buddhist school.

About Falun Dafa

Falun Dafa holds that the universe has not only a material reality, but an underlying moral dimension as well. The most essential quality of the universe embodies the principles of 真 善 忍 — truth, compassion, and forbearance.

These constitute the “Fa” or the Law, or what in Daoism is called the “Dao” or the Way. Translated into the parlance of the West, these qualities might be associated with “Natural Law” or the logos: the divine rational and ordering principles governing all of creation.

Dafa is the wisdom of the Creator. It is the bedrock of creation, what the heavens, earth, and universe are built upon.”

—Li Hongzhi, On Dafa

As with many religious and philosophical traditions, Falun Dafa teaches that human beings possess immortal souls. Although we exist here in a fallen state amidst suffering and illusions, the final destiny of the soul—the true meaning of our lives—is to achieve reconciliation with the divine and transcendence of the mundane world. We do this by seeking attunement and conformity with the laws of the universe: by cultivating virtue, tempering ourselves through adversity, and improving our wisdom and discernment of eternal truths.
